Interviews with Indies - Featuring: Enkelini

It's time for....

This weeks Featured Indie is Enkelini!

What is the name of your brand?
Enkelini.  I couldn’t think of anything when deciding on a name, then I decided to somehow name my brand after my 6yr old niece who is my little angel and such a sweetheart with a heart of gold.  I actually looked up the translation of ‘my little angel’ in different languages and the Finnish translation turned out to be Enkelini, and I loved it immediately.

What is your name/names of everyone involved in your brand?
Pat, it’s just me, little ole me.

What got you started in the polish making market?
Wanting some vhtf or discontinued polishes and thinking one day ‘hmm I wonder if I could make it myself’.  I have a habit of doing that with a lot of things… things that are way too expensive to buy, or things that aren’t quite exactly how I want it.

Do you have a background that was condusive to getting started in this field?
(example: were you a chemistry major, work in a lab, have an art degree, etc...)
No nothing like that, just my creative intuition and love of color and sparkles on my nails.

What is your thought process when naming colors?
Many different ones – sometimes I will already have a name chosen that I have in a list and then when I make a polish I will go through the list to see if anything matches the polish.  Sometimes I hear a word or two and think ‘that would be a great name for a polish’.  Other times the name will come to me as I am creating the polish.  Others are named after people I know.

Where do you derive your inspiration for your creations?
Many places.  Some come to me in a dream.  A lot come from what I see in nature.  If I see a color combination that exists in nature, I assume it was a combo that was meant to be together so I try it in a polish.  Others from color combinations I see in magazines or on television, or even a scarf I have that is a crazy combination of colors.

Where do you create?
My spare room, it has been completely taken over by glitters, pigments, swatch wheels, lacquers, packing materials etc.

Do you make polish full time?
Well it certainly has turned into very much a full time job J

What is your favorite polish that you did NOT make?
Oh without a doubt Floam!

What is your favorite polish brand?
Enkelini of course J  but with most indie brands a close second!

What is your favorite polish from your own line?
Oh no you didn’t!  I can’t pick just one because I love each one as much as the other.  If I don’t love it, it doesn’t get made.  Ok so if you are going to make me choose, I would have to say my fav Enkelini polish is…. whatever one I am wearing at the time :-D

What is the best part about making polish?
Gosh it is just so so much fun.  To see these creations that I make is so fulfilling and satisfying.  And I know that I can have pretty much any colour/glitter mix I want because I can now make it myself.  Oh but the real best part is putting them out there for other polish lovers to enjoy too.

What is the worst?
Too many ideas for new polishes and not being able to get them made now!

How many polish shades have you made to date?
I have 41 polishes listed in my etsy shop, but that’s not including the couple dozen or so fails that I have made!

How many polishes do you have in your own personal stash?
About 80 or so, not including my Enkelini polishes.

What is your one favorite ingredient?
Glitter, glitter and more glitter.  I can never have enough glitter!!

Do you make non-polish products? If so, tell us about them!
I do have plans to make an all natural hand and cuticle cream, but that’s when I can pull myself away from coming up with new polishes.

Tell us where your polishes are available to purchase?
Currently only on Etsy, but I am negotiating to have them available through a third party website who will also be offering international shipping.

Do you have a website/facebook/blog? Give us any links you want.
I have a facebook page - www.facebook.com/EnkeliniNailPolish

What does the future hold for your brand?
Making more polishes, then more polishes.  Hopefully spreading the word as far as I can so anyone who likes them as much as I do can have an Enkelini polish or two in their stash.

Do you have anything else you'd like my readers to know about you or your brand?
Except for my Flakie Friend glitter smoothing top coat, all my polishes are 3 Free.  They are all carefully and lovingly made by me in a clean, smoke-free, pet-free home.  I hope all my buyers love my polishes as much as I have enjoyed creating them and making them for you.

I also have Enkelini Golden Tickets (Willy Wonka style), that are randomly won by my buyers.  If you find an Enkelini Golden Ticket with your purchase you receive a free mini bottle shipped free.  There are also Enkelini Silver Tickets and Enkelini Purple tickets that give you a free mini with your next order, or a free full size bottle shipped free.  Keep an eye out for them in your next order! J
