What a shame...

You may or may not have heard about the recent actions of Sinful Colors that recently hit the fan.
I'd just like to pass this info on, I don't know what to say. I like the polish but I don't like the ethics, and for that, I'm not sure that I will necessarily boycott the brand or not post about their polishes, but I am not in favor of their actions in any way.

  1. I like how you stated this post. I'm upset with the ethics and do not believe what they did was right, but I am not sure I will necessarily boycott. I've signed the petition, and as an organization as big as Revlon, I'm sure they are currently trying to track down what happened and will release some sort of statement. Revlon has a lot to lose in a situation like this. *Not standing up for them...just stating that they are a huge organization that is probably crapping their pants right now*

    1. precisely.

the ethics of a few people behind the scenes in the marketing department do not equal the ethics of an entire business. i hope the bloggers are all issued a full apology and all actions are taken by the company to remedy this ridiculous judgment they made. its one thing to steal pics, but when you downright erase watermarks and tell your customers to do a technique to achieve a design that isn't even remotely feasible you have to wonder how little they think of their customers.
basically the way i see it is this...

will i stop swatching or buying sinful colors? no. i run a nail blog and people come for the nails, not the politics.

will i go into business with sinful colors if the chance ever arose? no. i would not and do not ever go into any business venture with people of lesser integrity.

    2. everything you just stated is exactly how I am feeling. I have been trying to think of the words to say all day, but you just said it perfectly! My blog is for nail polish and the joy it has brought me painting. I want to share my nails with others. I do not want to boycott, I do not want to fight, I just want to paint. Love how you stated this!

    3. thanks! i like to bring the info to the surface for people, but its very rarely that I will get involved in it. I mean, if this happened to me, I would be beyond pissed and probably would boycott, but thats also a heat of the moment judgement call without word from the company about what happened. I hope it works out the best for all parties, it really is a shame.

    4. it is a shame. I would have been furious, but one thing I have learned is to step back when you're in that heat of the moment anger. It seems from the comment Revlon left on Facebok in response to some angry posts (seriously some people are really writing rude things that are just uncalled for), that they have contacted and are working with the bloggers. I hope it all works out.

    5. I think you presented this in a professional manner, and I agree with the statements you've made.

I did a blog post about this pamphlet about a week before the polish went on sale, which seems to have sent this into overload. As I was writing the post, I focused on how poorly it the directions were written and that there couldn't have been editing done on the written part. I myself questioned how some of the designs were supposed to be achieved.

I do believe that what was done was wrong, and I hope that there is an agreement made between the blog. I refuse make assumptions about the situation. It's not about the politics.

  2. @the little canvas - do you have a link to that? would love to read some of it.

@wanderingsoul920 - yes, i agree it's bad to make assumption, though it certainly doesn't look good. based on the photos i've seen of this brochure, i kind of wondered if it was even done by Sinful Colors or if it was done by Walgreens, its poor quality for sure. But then again, seeing the Swatchaholics pics of the display where they clearly took her nail and placed them one by one on the huge display photo - it appears it was all done by SC after all...it appears to be blatant theft. Hope they rectify it.

    1. I agree, that it doesn't look good. A big boycott will only work if an overwhelming amount of people stop purchasing SC. I would say that this promotion was done by Sinful Colors and not by Walgreens. I don't think they could have been involved other than to put up the display. I honestly didn't pay a whole lot of attention to what was on the display, but after seeing the pictures, it does look like they took the pictures and placed them on the display-and not so well may I add. My display had the pamphlets sitting on the bottom instead of in the holder, and I noticed they were advertising their website as a place to go for more nail art ideas.

  3. omg thats ridiculous - they're advertising nail art ideas and telling you to go to a website that hasn't worked in months?
whose head is up whose ass over there? whomever it is, i think they may have a lot of free time in the future. don't put that on your resume!

    1. That's exactly what they're doing. How long has the site been down now? Well over a year...maybe closer to two? They were advertising the glitters forever, and now it's a collection that has been gone from my Walgreens for a while. Marketing seems to be the problem. But maybe it's better that the website isn't up and working, because this could be a lot worse for Revlon/Sinful Colors.

  4. This was well stated. I'm definitely not a fan of the tactics that SC has undertaken to advertise for their new displays but on the other hand I'm not sure I want to boycott them. I do agree an apology needs to be made and some kind of acknowledgement or compensation should be given for the use of another person's images. I know from blogging myself it takes a lot of work to edit etc pictures and posts so they should have at least given credit where credit is due. On the other hand we have no idea who was in charge of this project or whether their morals as a whole represent the morals of the entire Revlon/SC franchise. I want to sit back and see how this unfolds and of course continue blogging about what I love nail art and nail polish of course. There has been a little too much drama of late in the polish world. Lol - it would be nice if we could just obtain the polishes we want at a reasonable price and without underhanded behavior or overbearing attitudes.

  5. Wow, that is dirty. If I hadn't been rushed out of Walgreens tonight I would have been able to pick up that little pamphlet and looked at it myself.
