Tokidoki Graffiti Mani + Tutorial




To this day, one of my favorite and most viewed posts is THIS Tokidoki Mani I did last year.
Well...thanks to Born Pretty Store, I was able to get this awesome stamping plate to review and I just knew I had to re-visit this mani and put a new spin on it.
So here we go with a full tutorial on the Tokidoki Graffiti Mani!

Here is the stamping plate from Born Pretty Store. It is available HERE and retails for US $2.99 with FREE SHIPPING. It is great quality and every single image stamped perfectly. It comes wrapped in the standard blue film you remove before starting. How cute are all of these designs? I had to get this the second I saw it, it screamed Tokidoki to me!

Again, I am doing a Nail Decal technique. Start with clear polish on a piece of thick plastic or wax paper. When it is dry, stamp your designs on in white.

Next you need a sponge and however many different neon polishes you feel like using for this design. I chose 5 but then left out the yellow because it did not show up good against the white.

Dab the excess polish off of your sponge and then sponge directly onto the stamped design all around and inside the design, like above. Basically outline it and make sure to get the color inside as well.

When you have sponged all of your colors, this is what your sheet of decals will look like from the back.

And the front! How awesome, right? NOW it's starting to look like some wicked awesome graffiti spraypaint!

Here is the lineup of colors I chose. China Glaze Celtic Sun, Color Club Warhol, Color Club Wham! Pow! and Sinful Color Rise and Shine. Also, a white polish (and a black for some of the above sponging)

Ok, I didn't show you my nails before I applied the decal but essentially, you paint all of your nails white except for your accent nail. For that nail, you paint one coat of white and then when dry you will do a watercolor technique with ALL of your neons. When everything is a little tacky but not wet or dry, cut your decals to roughly the size of your nail and apply and get out all of your wrinkles. As you can see above, lots of overhang, but I just use a brush and some acetone and it comes right off, it is polish after all!


Once you've got everything cleaned up and ironed out nicely, just top coat and you are all done!

My index got wonky, I used a yellow stencil, it didn't show up, so I went back over it with an orange decal but it smeared! So then I used a pink, which ended up looking cool and different because of the color blend! All in all, I love the middle pink finger and the black decal accent finger - something about the black REALLY makes it look spray painted on!
