Every other Wednesday, the Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers will answer a beauty-related question just for fun! This week's question
is...

What is your favorite part about makeup and beauty products?

SUCH a hard question - I mean there are just so many cool parts about being a girl and wearing makeup and having so much beauty paraphernalia at your fingertips! Not to say boys don't - I love me a good looking boy in makeup!
And that's just ONE of so many things that is cool about the beauty industry and how far it has come.
I have always been infatuated with men in makeup, drag queens, theater makeup...
I think it is so cool what you can do with a brush and some color these days and I have always been fascinated by special effects makeup - how funny is it that as I type this post out I am watching FACE OFF, the quintessential tv show about makeup!
But back on topic - movie and theater makeup, is hands down my favorite part of the world of makeup - it is the reason I began my stint in makeup artistry many years ago. These days I only do it on myself, but I still appreciate the hell out of it and anyone who has the skills to pull it off!

Hello!

When we started the Weekly Beauty Question, we intended for it to be a segment on our blogs that would be a unique way to connect with our readers and also help us get to know our fellow group members better. However, since we also have other commitments in addition to blogging, we have reached the decision that we will be answering the MABB beauty questions on a bi-weekly basis for the time being.

Since we always strive to provide you with the best possible content, we feel that by doing the questions bi-weekly we will be able to select more interesting questions and have plenty of time to prepare answers that we know you will just love to read!

We apologize for any disappointment this may cause and thank you for your understanding. The questions will resume next Wednesday, October 10th.

Sincerely,

The Metro Atlanta Beauty Bloggers

What's the one makeup/beauty item that intimidates you most?

Hmmmm.
If I'd never done makeup professionally I'd probably have a really long list here, but I've been forced to do things I never thought I'd be comfortable with because it was called for on a shoot.
By my own beauty standards, I'd say something that I really don't like to do often is false lashes. I love them, but I find the older I get, the less patience I have for them. From putting them on to making sure they are just perfect to having to actually wear them any period of time past 10 minutes makes me want to claw my entire face off!

How did you choose your blog name?

Ah - Good Question!
I've always been one for trying to come up with interesting names for things. I've had a couple of handmade businesses and various websites over the years and I always try to name them something very original and unforgettable. When it came to naming my nail blog I just kinda tried to think of words about nails and words that started with the same letter. When I decided keeping it simple at nails would be the best best, I started thinking of words starting with N. Then I took a piece of my California heritage and went with Gnarly!
I decided to spell them both with a G just to really stand out a little more.
But usually, people spell my blog Gnarly Nails anyway - so go figure!

How do you feel about polish trends like nail art, crackle, "fish egg" manis, etc?

It really just depends. Usually if it's a NEW idea and not a recycled idea from 20 years ago, I will like it. But not always.
For example...when crackle hit, I was kind of disgusted. Did it in high school, not interested in doing it again, ya know? And then again, when Caviar hit, it was a new idea but I just didn't like the way it looked.
But other trends really take me by storm, like gradients, stamping, tape manicures.
Like with everything in my life, I have a varied and eclectic sort of taste, I'm pretty unpredictable when it comes to trends!

What are your favorite big name nail polish brands? (OPI, China Glaze, Zoya, etc)

Yay! A polish question!
This is SUCH a hard one though.
As fellow nail polish lovers/bloggers, I'm sure alot of you can relate on how hard it would be to pick just ONE favorite brand.
But...when I think of all of the things I look for in a big name brand polish...variety, formula, consistency, value for quality, ease of access.
I think I'd have to say my favorite big brand polish line is Color Club.
They have a huge selection of colors, great formulas, unique shades and lots of collection releases throughout the year. They generally retail for $8 but find a polish etailer like 8ty8beauty or ebay and you can get them for less than half of that. I mean come on, a $3 holo? Yeah, Color Club it is.

What was your worst makeup "don't" that you thought looked amazing at the time?

This is my first Weekly Beauty Question with MABB and it's a GREAT one!
I can honestly say as soon as I read this I knew the answer!
Sometimes, you just know when you did something terrible, something that makes you cringe every time you see an old picture of yourself.
When I was about 21(ish) I had an obsession with my hair being Platinum.
I also seemed to think it was a great idea to bleach my brows to match - aka NO BROWS.
This was way before I did makeup or cared about my eyebrows at all!
So there you have it ladies - don't bleach your brows! Just don't!!
