![]() | So, you may know already that it's June. Because I told you before, so I hope you were listening/reading. You were, right? Cool. I told ya'll last month there would be some new content rolling through soon, as you saw earlier, and here is the other. Back In Time. A series where every month I will go back one year ago and pick a manicure from the same month last year and re-do it. HOWEVER, I'm not doing this alone! The Crumpet has graciously hopped on board to keep me company on this time travelling adventure! Call her the DOC to my Marty! Not only will we do our own, but we'll do each others too! On the first of each month, we will do our own recreations. Then on the 15th, we will do each others! |
So today being the 1st of June, I am doing a mani-recreation of my own.
I have chosen to re-create THIS mani from last June.
So, you may have noticed this is, how do you say...? Crackley? Crackle-y? Crackilly?
Its cracking! What the blip!?
I used a base of Ruby Kisses Dance with the Devil then topped it with Orly Stone Cold to get a deep blue shimmer. On all other nails I topped with Meta Metics Blood & Snow.
On the accent I taped off in a union jack pattern and then I went in with a MASH Nail Art Pen in white and kind of traced around the tape lines. Because these pens are super fluid and not very opaque, I had to go over the lines a few times to get them bright white. I guess when I did, it made them do the crackey dance. But in 'real life' you couldn't tell...I didn't even know until I looked at the pics that it had even happened. Boo. But...it adds an interesting flair I guess. I always need more pieces of FLAIR!
In case you didn't click that link up there to show you my old mani this was spun from, I'll help you out lazy! This is what last years mani looked like:
Now - go check out The Crumpet and see what she did too!
You might be wondering why I, an American blogger, am doing a post on a British holiday such as St. George's Day.
Truth be told, it's because I found a wicked awesome set of OPI Union Jack nail wraps at TJ Maxx a few weeks ago and immediately came home and scoured the net looking for the next best English holiday to wear them. I think we're all up to speed now.
Here is a little info courtesy of wikipedia on Saint George:
Saint George (c. 275/281 – 23 April 303 AD) was a Greek who became an officer in the Roman army. His father was the Greek Gerondios fromCappadocia Asia Minor and his mother was from the city Lydda. Lydda was a Greek city in Palestine from the times of the conquest of Alexander the Great (333 BC). Saint George became an officer in the Roman army in the Guard of Diocletian. He is venerated as a Christian martyr. In hagiography, Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Catholic (Western and Eastern Rites), Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, and the Oriental Orthodoxchurches. He is immortalized in the tale of Saint George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints.
I did this mani using only a nail wrap and a red and white polish. Oh, and striping tape. And a dotting tool. And top coat. Yeah, just those things.

So how awesome is that wrap on my ring finger? I was STOKED to ramble into TJ Maxx one day and find this pack of them. The only one, like a beacon, waiting for me and calling out to me. Yes, I am a sucker for anything with a Union Jack on it.
I did the other nails in The Balm/Hot Ticket Better Off Red and when dry, striping taped up and painted on white with a dotting tool to make the flag of Saint George. Finished everything off with a nice coat of Out the Door.
Here is a rare outdoor shot. I really wanted to show off the sparkle in the wrap and my Ott lite was just not cuttin' it!
And just for fun, I found this awesome picture when googling some info!
Hope you enjoyed!!!
Adventures in Stamping - Going Gold(ish)

The theme for this weeks Adventures in Stamping Challenge was something involving gold, silver or bronze.
So I being the ever so overachiever that I can be, I tried to use all three. But not really gold, more like champagne. And not really bronze as much as copper.
Metal is metal, right?

When it comes to holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day and the like, I'm not the one you will find doing red white and blue mani's! For one, I hate that color combo and I just don't find myself very patriotic about flying those colors around!
BUT - I do love a good Union Jack. Don't know why - never even been to the UK! But I love the culture and any chance I get to create something with this on it, I'm ALL over it!
So I present to you - my flag mani!
Colors Used:
White Art Striper Polish
China Glaze Frostbite
Sinful Colors My Day Red Striper Polish
China Glaze Dorothy Who & Kleancolor Blue Eyed Girl on blue nails over CG Frostbite.
I know my flag is a little wonky...and then to top it off my cat came wagging her tail right in my wet mani!

PCF - Maundy Thursday

Todays Purple Crumpet Fairy Challenge is for Maundy Thursday.
I'll be honest, when I saw the list, I said What the H is Maundy Thursday?!
So I jumped over to Wikipedia and did a little research. My boyfriend was peeping over my shoulder as I was researching and wanted to get involved too. He loves history and he loves England - so he thought this was pretty cool and after awhile he was on his laptop ebaying Maundy coins!
For those who don't know the history like me, here is a brief synopsis of this holiday:
The Maundy Thursday celebrations in the United Kingdom today involve the Monarch (since 1952, Queen Elizabeth II) offering "alms" to deserving senior citizens (one man and one woman for each year of the sovereign's age). These coins, known as Maundy money or Royal Maundy, are distributed in red and white purses. This custom dates back to King Edward I. The red purse contains regular currency and is given in place of food and clothing. The white purse contains currency in the amount of one penny for each year of the Sovereign's age. Since 1822, rather than ordinary money, the Sovereign gives out Maundy coins,[46] which are specially minted 1, 2, 3 and 4 penny pieces, and are legal tender. The service at which this takes place rotates around English and Welsh churches, though in 2008 it took place for the first time in Northern Ireland at Armagh Cathedral. Until the death of King James II, the Monarch would also wash the feet of the selected poor people.
So, I had this awesome theme in my brain of doing gold since the coins are gold, or sometimes gold...was to stamp off an actual English coin, which my boyfriend had from his trip to England. Well it was easier said than done. Not to mention, upon execution, my union jack smeared!
The gold is The Balms Hot Ticket Polish in Goldfinger. The black and white are art stripers and then theres some hand placed black hex glitter on the index too.
The thumb is the queen off the head of a 10 pence
Index is black hex glitters in a messed up polka dot pattern
Middle is the union jack
Ring is the tails part of the 10 pence, a lion, which totally did not come out well at all.
And the pinky is a money sign.
Oh well...maybe another time when I have more patience I will give this another go.
