 | Back with another Breast Cancer Awareness manicure. Today I decided to go with one of the more trendy designs in nails - the drip. More precisely - the drip and stripe. Haha...I just dubbed that it's new name. |
 | Welcome BACK to the BACK IN TIME segment of the blog! This is where we go back and re-do old manicures. The first of the month we do our own, the 15th of the month we do the other persons. This challenge consists of myself, Smashley and Debbie - however, Debbie has moved on from this challenge so now it's just me and the Smasher! Let's see what mani of hers I recreated...shall we? |
Here is Ashleys on the left, and my re-imagining on the right. She actually based hers off of the following scrapbooking cover, so I took a little from that as well as her previous design:
So I had the idea to do some houndstooth in this, but omg...three fails and I gave up.
I made a few changes, for one I switched up 2 florals for a combination of the 2 into one. Then I also did this in neon instead. And matte.
I used a neon pink from POP Beauty (the name isnt on the bottle since I bought it in a duo of lip balm and polish, but I think it may be called Pinkest), the neon green is I'm With the Lifeguard by China Glaze. Then black and white.
I am proud to say that even though the many fails of houndstooth are gone, I freehanded this whole thing. First florals I've done that I actually like, too.

I've been really itching to do a feminine type post lately.
I had a few different ideas floating around, but as with most of my manicures, I usually end up doing something different at the last minute. I am the epitome of a woman who constantly changes her mind!

| I decided to go with a pretty and feminine wallpaper style mani. The base for the manicure is Sinful Colors Be Happy. A dupe for so many like it, including China Glaze For Audrey. This one has a MINUTE shimmer in the bottle which, if it translates to the nail at all, is almost impossible to detect. |

| For my flowers, I used American Apparel Pink Ladies and Color Club Warhol. The leaves were done using Models Own Green Tea. The stripes were done with a basic white striper polish. |

| There's a lot of hype around Butter London right now and their awesome deal on Coterie - one of those deals includes their Matte Top Coat, and if you want to know how good it is, this should help you, since it's what I used on this mani. The best matte top coat I have tried so far. |

Ok...so after yesterdays awesome dots, today we have stripes. And I hate em.
Wanting to do Grey and Pink was great in my head until I realized I picked a grey that takes 3 coats to get opaque for a tape mani. Which you may or may not know, but when doing a tape mani you really wanted the thinnest and quickest drying polishes possible. So it was kinda time consuming, which Missy does not do too well. Patience. pfffft.

| So...for this the base is Recycle by China Glaze. When I first bought this, I adored it. Now though, I feel like there are much better and much more opaque versions of this color. Sadly, I don't own those. Time to start looking, do you have a favorite medium grey that is opaque in one or two coats? Tell me about it if you do! |

| I taped off some stripe patterns using striping tape and then I used Orly Preamp for the pink. |

It's Monday again. Do you know what that means yet?
Well...every Monday me and a bunch of other awesome ladies take the challenge to re-create a mani we've liked on the interweb somewhere.
Mine today is not really one mani but rather multiple mani's I have seen inspired by Betsey Johnson. I took some ideas from different mani's I liked and sorta did my own twist on those.

Now, before you say anything - I KNOW I said last week that I would use Illamasqua Viridian for Teal Tuesday - but then yesterday I got a swap package from my lovely friend Debbie and she had included one of my coveted wishlist items, Nubar Stylish Peacock. So after swatching it on my boyfriend and seeing how amazingly it applied, I simply HAD to use it.
SO thats the base, then I stamped with Konad White and Sally Hansen Rapid Red.

Monkey See Monkey Do Time! Featuring Chalkboard Nails.

I am EXCITED about today.
One of my favorite nail bloggers hands down is Sarah at Chalkboard Nails. She is always spot on in her awesomeness. One of my other favorite things in life is Leopard Print. So it was no wonder when I saw this mani she did, that I would want to re-create it!
Totally awesome perfection, right? I only hope I can do it justice.
I kinda think I did ok. I approve anyway!
I used a base coat of Kleancolor Melon Green since I knew the next polish would be a streaky bastard. Boy was I right. I had to use 4 additional coats of China Glaze Celtic Sun...that polish is a streaky disaster. Pretty, but a nightmare. It was STILL streaky after a base and 4 coats, but since I knew I was covering a large portion of it, I struggled on.
The grey is China Glaze Pelican Grey (oops here, I meant to use Recycle, but in the end I grabbed the wrong bottle...glad I did though, I think the darker grey would not have looked as good) and Fingerpaints Black Expressionism.
A coat of Gelous and Out the Door to finish, because I had some bumps from the many layers of polish and I like a good smooth surface when I dot or tape! So there you have it!

Here is what you'll need:
Base Coat (I used a strengthener first, then a base), Light tan/Cream color, Black, Matte top coat, makeup sponge, star stickers, striping tape (and not shown, tweezers and scissors and either a dotting tool or paintbrush)
Start with nail strengthener.
Apply base coat, I use CND Stickey
Apply your cream color. I used Essie Barefoot & Topless.
Here is 3 coats of Barefoot & Topless (no cleanup here, sorry!)
Now you wait. Because I used 3 coats of the Essie, I did not want to add a quick dry top coat as another layer, and I had time, so I waited. I waited about 2 hours. If you don't have the time and either don't mind the extra layer of polish or didn't use as many coats of polish on your cream shade as I did, I would for sure suggest you use a quick dry top coat to speed this along. You want to make sure your polish is very very dry, because next you will be taping off and don't want your base polish getting pulled off!
Next you will need to get out your stars and striping tape.
The stars can be found at any office supply store in the labels section.
The striping tape I got off of ebay.
Apply your star sticker to your pinky, I like to do most designs slightly askew/off center.
Make sure it's stuck down good so no polish seeps under.
Get your sponge!
Get your black polish! The more pigmented/opaque the better. I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism.
Apply a few drops of polish to your sponge, like so.
Dab the sponge once to get the excess color blob off.
Sponge on your black over the entire nail until it begins to get tacky. Don't overdo this step or your black polish will begin to pull back up. If this happens, no big deal, just apply a little more to the sponge and re-sponge the nail until you get the coverage you want. You want it to look sponged and not full coverage, that's what gives it that vintage look when some of the light base shows through.
Remove your star sticker, use tweezers if necessary.
Apply your striping tape to make a few pinstripes. Again, make sure its tacked down on the nail good so that no polish seeps under.
Sponge it up!
Remove your striping tape.
Take a dotting tool or end of a paintbrush and make some polka dots on your middle finger, like so!
Next do another striping tape situation for the index finger like you did for the ring finger.
Apply a couple of off center star stickers to the thumb and sponge!
Remove those stars - voila!
Now is when you will want to clean up with a paintbrush and some acetone. At this point, do your other hand, mix it up. I did one nail on the other hand black with
cream dots to change it up a little. Black with cream stripes would be cute as well. After you've done both hands and cleaned up both hands you should be dry enough to
top coat. Make sure you give the color time to dry, as you can see in a few places I didn't wait long enough and my black smeared.
I used Hard Candy Matte Top Coat. I did 2 coats for thorough matte-ness!
And here is what you get! It takes time, but it's worth it!
