Hey supersweets! Today embarks on a new chapter in The Digit-al Dozen themery - this month/week our theme is Black and White. November is my birth month, so I got to pick the theme this month and I'm totally stoked on it! Sadly I'm also TOTALLY unprepared and running way behind on getting them done, but I still made this one in under the wire!
Hope you're all having a good weekend, or whatever day you're reading this!
Despite my ailments I'm trucking along.
As for nails - well...I have some awesome new OPI DS polishes to show you!
These are a bit different than the DS line we are used to from years past, these are somewhere between a matte glitter polish and a textured polish. I say in between because the texture on these is almost unnoticeable, you can barely feel it and you can't see it really at all. I also have a comparison with other close textures!
OPI - DS Lapis
OPI - DS Pewter
First up is DS Lapis - a stunning cobalt/navy blue with silver and black particles. These are inspired by "raw granite" and definitely look as so. Its kind of how you would imagine granite if it was blue instead of the standard grey color. Google blue granite and you will some stuff very similar to this in fact!
This is just...RICH. It dries FAST, it dries MATTE and it took ONE COAT. Thats all the win I need.
It has the slightest bit of texture to the touch, I think you could slap a matte top coat over this to get it smooth and keep its natural effect. Or glossy is gorgeous too...but I didn't do that today because lots of people have already done it...instead I opted to show you some comparisons....
So let's see how DS Lapis stacks up against the new liquid sand, Alcatraz Rocks.
Both shown at 1 coat and no top coats. DS Lapis is clearly a more heathered blue with black and silver bits, where Alcatraz is loaded with the gold and purple bits and has a lot more sparkle pizazz.
Alcatraz is also 2-3 times more textured as well. In look and feel. Both gorgeous in their own right. I couldn't pick a favorite to be honest.
And the other new DS is DS Pewter. A dark grey/light black jelly full of silver microglitter and slightly bigger pieces too.
DS Pewter took two coats and was way less black than in the bottle. Each coat darkens it some but I don't think you can get it black black. Same feel and look as DS Lapis, slight texture with beautiful matte effect.
It reminds me of hammered metal, that metal that is a dark gunmetal but pocked with black marks. Very mineral-like.
And now I will show you a comparison between DS Pewter and Nicole by OPI A-Nise Treat.
Each shown at 2 coats with no top coats. You can see A-Nise Treat has uniform particles and is more textured. It is also much blacker in depth.
Same as before...both share a matte finish but the Gumdrops and Liquid Sands have more texture and more sparkle than these DS polishes do. They will grab more twinkle with top coat, but I quite love the matte effect as is!
Designer Series by OPI nail lacquer shades each feature OPI’s exclusive ProWide™ Brush for the ultimate in application. DS Raw Granite lacquers should be worn without top coat for a matte finish. DS Pewter and DS Lapiswill be available beginning September 2013 at professional salons, including Beauty Brands, Beauty First, Chatters, Dillard’s, jcp Salons, Pure Beauty, Regis, Trade Secret, ULTA and ulta.com for $12.50 ($14.95 CAN) suggested retail for each nail lacquer.
I like to drop all of my favorites of theme weeks at the front of the week and for some reason, looking back, I should have posted this one first, because I think this one is my favorite.
It's one of those manicures that is SO easy and SO fast but the colors/polishes just made this manicure so much more than I think it would have been with, say, non-textures or glittery polishes. You'll see what I mean when you follow me!
“These shades are sure to satisfy any sweet tooth,” explains Suzi Weiss-Fischmann, Nicole byOPI Co-Founder & Artistic Director. “By combining groundbreaking texture technology with some of the hottest trends including matte and shimmer finishes, Nicole by OPI has created a new line of lacquers for cutting-edge manicures. Worn without top coat, Gumdrops lacquers dry to a textured matte finish to give nails a “sugar” coated appearance.

Nicole by OPI - Blue-Berry Sweet on You
Nicole by OPI - My Cherry Amour
Nicole by OPI - Candy is Dandy
Nicole by OPI - Cinna-Man of My Dreams
Nicole by OPI - I Lilac Gumdrops
Let's see 'em, shall we?
My silly attempt to get candy crazy!!! Yes, I may have partook in eating a few of these candies after I took this photo! But how scrumptious do these look!?
(disclaimer: do not eat polish!)
THOUGHTS:
Formula was the same on all of these so instead of getting redundant, every polish took 2 coats and had a fantastic formula. Dry time was good, full texture in under 10 minutes for all shades.
A-Nise Treat
This was one I was expecting to fall head over heels with harder than anything else in this collection.
It didn't live up to those expectations but it is still gorgeous and I do really like it. I think I was expecting less silver in the mix, but that's also what makes it as cool as it is. Like a monochromatic galaxy. And it looks great with a matte top coat (see last photo of it)

Blue-Berry Sweet On You
Yep. This is one of my faves of the bunch. I thought, oh great, ANOTHER blue texture...but I was so wrong. This shade pulls violet and is much darker than ANY of the swatches I've seen other bloggers post. I think it falls between medium and dark denim blue and gets darker with every coat, though 2 produced the perfect shade in my book. This looks fantastic both alone and with top coat!!

Candy Is Dandy
For a pink lover such as myself, I thought I would be down the middle on this one. And I was. It's cute, and it's dainty and feminine but it's just kinda boring. It has larger glitters mixed in which is something I don't normally care for in texture polishes, I like my glitters uniform in polishes like these. But it does have some sporadic holo glitters in here too which bump it's points up some.

Cinna-Man of My Dreams
Ok...this was one I thought I'd love. Is there a word that is better than love?! If so, please tell me in the comments so I can edit this post. This polish sent me to the freakin' moon. Not only is the color wicked cool, but it's got so much depth in the glitters that it actually appears to change colors form burgundy to brown to copper depending on the light! You will see below, I added some wonderful shots of the crazy glitters in this. Yes, THIS is the winner of the collection in my eyes.

Hi - do you see? Its a CHAMELEON!!! Each finger looks like a different polish!

Here you can really see the different colored glitters in this polish...(purples, lilacs, coppers, silver...I mean what is in this, crack?!)
I Lilac Gumdrops
This polish is a very beautiful lilac/lavender. It did nothing for me personally colorwise. It has a beautiful silver glitter in it and if you love purples and lilacs this is right up your alley!

My Cherry Amour
This was another surprise favorite for me. I wasn't expecting much, another fuchsia type texture, blah blah. But it's so much more. When you apply this it is this juicy jelly like no other texture I've tried. THEN...then you see these spectacular holo particles and you're like WHAT! IS THIS REAL LIFE?! Yeah, it's that good.

In my final thoughts - the polishes I was expecting to love were actually the ones I ended up liking the least (not to say I disliked them, there was nothing here I didn't love to be honest), and the polishes I wasn't really looking twice at in the bottle were kind of the sleeper hits for ME.
I would also like to add that alot of people are like oh this is the new crackle fad and I'm not going to give in and buy these so they can collect dust in 6 months - and to them, you know what I say?
TOP COAT!
These have so much versatility you guys! Top coat, matte top coat - do it!
