Hey you!
Before I get into this post, I just want to let you guys know that I have changed my commenting system away from the Blogger platform of commenting to a more universal system, Disqus.
Please let me know if you have any issues during this transition!
Are you wondering what the hell UPC means?
Well last week while doing my blog reading I stumbled across this challenge set up by Jonochi at justaddpolish.com - now it's very laid back with no dates and no set go in order type of deal, even though I will be going in order. So I am not sure who is participating, but you can go to her blog post HERE to find out more.
So anyway - UPC=Untried Polish Challenge!
So today is the first day of the challenge for me and I chose GOLD!
But I chose TWO Gold polishes! Hey, gotta use those untrieds up, right?!
So for today I am using Essence polishes in The Huntsman and A Piece of Forever
2 coats of A Piece of Forever followed by a glitter gradient in The Huntsman!
I finished this off with MASH Nails Matte topcoat!
Overall - I don't love this manicure. The gold polish itself is too frosty for my taste, I should have done the sponging on of a top layer of it to knock off the brushstrokes but I don't know where my head was at. I will give it another chance before I decide its demise.
As for the glitter topper, I love gold glitters but this one is a bit runny for my taste...
Black Cat Lacquer - Doomsday

So to start this post, Sabrina from Black Cat Lacquer is awesome. After I received this review package from her, we had a few talks about the inspiration behind some of her polishes, and this was one I was super excited by for so many reasons. First of all, I'm like a raccoon when it comes to shiny things. Give give give! Mine mine mine! I love gold, gold glitter, gold glitter!
One of the only things I love more than the color gold, is the show Dexter. And this polish, Doomsday, was named after a character on the show.
This polish is all things awesome, hands down.
Lets get to it.

| Doomsday Macro. Gold and gold holo glitters in bar and multiple sizes of hexagon shaped. |
![]() |
| I've paired up Doomsday with Oh My Goldness from Catrice. |
![]() |
| Oh My Goldness is a stunner of a gold polish, lots of frosty shimmer and subtle sparkle! |
![]() |
| Shown here, Oh My Goldness in 2 coats, no top coat. So much depth.... |
![]() |
| This is one coat of Doomsday over Oh My Goldness. Applied heavenly, as every BCL I have used has done. |
![]() |
| The best thing about these polishes is they dry out so smoothly. One coat of top coat leaves a smooth surface, no pesky glitters poking out. |
![]() |
| A close up of all of the funky gold and gold holo goodness. |

| As an added bonus - Doomsday Mattified! |
![]() |
| This is my favorite pic of the litter - I love the shimmer my camera picked up from OMG, it looks so grainy and cool under Doomsday! |
You can pick up Doomsday HERE from Black Cat Lacquer - her polishes are always in stock and have a terrific price!
Welcome to the last day of Shimmer Week on Gnarly Gnails!
I've saved MY favorite for last.
I've saved MY favorite for last.
The lovely Cindy of Shimmer was kind enough to send me a bucketfull of her beautiful polishes to review.
Since I had so many to work with I decided to swatch them a bit differently. Each of the 10 polishes I have to show you this week will be done as 50/50 Manicures so you can see the base vs. over the base, to see how well these cover. I will walk through the review picture by picture. Let's get started.
Rochelle:
![]() |
| I am pairing Rochelle with Orly Solid Gold - pretty much my most favorite gold polish ever on earth. |
![]() |
| As you may have come to know - here is the famous 50/50 Shimmercure! You like that? Then you must love this! If you are a fan of hot, passionate polishes, this one is for you! |
![]() |
| It smooths out so beautifully, too. Look look! |
![]() |
| As a sidenote, Orly Solid Gold is a dream polish. It dries matte, is good for stamping and is opaque in one coat. |
![]() |
| LOOOOOOVE!!!!!! |
Rochelle was a polish I was not expecting to like, let alone LOVE!
I have recently become a huge fan of fiery polishes like this, but this is the first one I've ever tried. How weird of me to like anything red and polish related at the same time...but I DO!
And - I also have a good friend named Rachelle (close) so it's kinda cool for that too. The Shimmer brand is VERY consistent with every single polish you can expect great coverage and an easy peasy application! They do dry gritty, which is why each one I finish off with a coat of Gelous and then a standard Quick Dry top coat. Shimmer can be found on Etsy and they retail for $12 per bottle.

Tracy:

| Today I will be swatching Tracy alongside Catrice's Revoltaire. |
![]() |
| And here swatched with Revoltaire, they make a great couple, don't they? |
![]() |
| You get a surprise bonus today in that I gave you a full accent nail of Tracy so you can really see how the colors pop together. |
![]() |
| I've said it before but it bares repeating - I am a sucker for gold! This is soooo bling-tastic! |
![]() |
| The swatching polish that accompanied Tracy - Catrice Revoltaire, is a greenish gold polish that is very hard to describe. It was nice to apply, shown here at 2 coats under Tracy. |
Tracy was another awesome dream polish to apply. This was one of the more bombed out full on glitters - which for gold, is what I personally want. The more gold the better! Shimmer can be found on Etsy and they retail for $12 per bottle.
Every swatch of Shimmers this week has been finished off with 1 coat of Gelous + 1 coat of Jordana Quick Dry Top Coat.
Monkey See Monkey Do Featuring - Nailside Explosions!

If you spend any time at all perusing nail blogs, you have likely heard of the Nailside blog.
Doing a Monkey See Monkey Do Challenge wouldn't be complete without including one of her designs...which is what I'm showing you today.
You can view this style of nail art she's done HERE.
Used Enkelini Shampayne for the base, taped off the explosions and painted black, then I freehanded the holo black explosions using Layla Flash Black and a striping brush. Top coat slightly ran the black holo, not sure why - but I still dug it!
