Hey guys!!
Today I've got the latest Nicole by OPI and Kellogg's Collaboration. If you recall, these two teamed up last year as well to bring you free polish for buying select/specially marked Special K items. My review of the first set of polishes from 2013 can be found HERE.
Well they are back this year, and while the red polish, Challenge Red-y, is a repromote, the other two aren't and they're beauties! Let's check it out!

Hey yo!
I have a fun little couple of manis to share with you today based around some decals I was recently sent to review by Moon Sugar Decals.
I have reviewed their decals before, which you can see HERE - and I'm back with some new designs they just launched!
And since metallic nails are all the rage right now (at least they are in my house) - I figured I'd slap these puppies over something shiny!

Merry & Bright - Incoco Winter/Holiday 2013 Review and Swatches

Today I have a great grouping of Incoco Nail Appliques to share with you from their newest offering for Holiday 2013 - Merry & Bright.
I toyed with my camera setup recently and I'm sad to say it was pretty unsuccesful. When I took these pictures I thought they were gonna turn out great, but instead my hands seemed weirdly posed and the lighting was wicked terrible. I was able to color correct pretty ok to get everything looking as it should, but I'm really sorry if these seem different than my normal images - I have a slew of manis that will be like this through next week, but then it's back to the tried and true! It is true what they say - if it aint broke, don't fix it!

Ab Fab Challenge - Day 3 - Bubble

It's time for some fun!
Today is Day 3 of the Ab Fab Challenge - which begins with the more whimsical ladies of the show - today is Bubble!
Bubble is the crackpot assistant to Edina who wears the most crazy outfits that almost never seem to match.
She is a total airhead and yet somehow she is a hilarious and likeable character. Her accent and voice completely crack me up whenever she is on screen.

Todays theme for the 33DC is 'Most Used Color'
Sometimes on these prompts you have to draw your own conclusions, so this could be a shade, or a specific polish? Why not both!?
So I dug through my keyword list, which is not 100% accurate because sometimes I can't fit everything in there I would like - but I found that my most used polish was Zoya Dovima, and my most used color was Pink.
So I took Dovima and I paired it with one of my favorite pinks, Nicole by OPI Still Into Pink, which also happens to be the same finish, a sparkly matte.
I've also used a MoYou London plate for this mani - Pro Collection 04.

I only used these two polishes, even for the stamping. I wanted to keep the finishes all matching. But you can definitely see how the pink changes when its stamped over black. Most polishes stamp poorly over black though so I was expecting this, I like it, even if it didn't really match the accent nail!
Pretty straightforward - both the roses and the cameo design are off of the same plate - and the mani was finished using Out the Door Top Coat.

Awww....sads.
It's our last day of the Digit-al Dozen Does It Again!
It's been a BLAST to run through our first year of challenges in 12 days!
Our last theme is Fashion - which ugh...I'm just not a fashion person AT ALL.
I love fashion but when it comes to my own lifestyle, I fall short.
But I do admire and covet it, mostly on my nails though these days.
Here is my inspiration for todays theme:
Alexander McQueen - I chose the dress on the left. Houndstooth and Floral.
Seemed easy enough but I tried to stamp florals OVER the houndstooth and it looked terrible. So I did this instead:

This challenge consists of myself, Smashley and Debbie - however, Debbie has moved on from this challenge so now it's just me and the Smasher! Let's see what mani of hers I recreated...shall we? |
Here is Ashleys on the left, and my re-imagining on the right. She actually based hers off of the following scrapbooking cover, so I took a little from that as well as her previous design:
So I had the idea to do some houndstooth in this, but omg...three fails and I gave up.
I made a few changes, for one I switched up 2 florals for a combination of the 2 into one. Then I also did this in neon instead. And matte.
I used a neon pink from POP Beauty (the name isnt on the bottle since I bought it in a duo of lip balm and polish, but I think it may be called Pinkest), the neon green is I'm With the Lifeguard by China Glaze. Then black and white.
I am proud to say that even though the many fails of houndstooth are gone, I freehanded this whole thing. First florals I've done that I actually like, too.

I've also shown you here a comparison of the jar next to a standard 3 gram jar.
For this mani I have also used the same glitters in Black, that I reviewed HERE. These glitters in Gold Bronze (as well as a ton of other shades) are available HERE for $8.00 per jar.
I did alternating bases of Black and Essie's Penny Talk, a copper metallic/chrome polish.
I stamped the middle and pinky fingers with a combination of a lace plate (A34) and a floral design (Cheeky 50) - the glitter nails are matching polish bases with glitters adhered on top. On the index finger I used the black circles and also some smaller black hex glitters I had.
I'd like to add with this Gold bronze glitters that they were thinner than the black ones I previously reviewed. The black ones were about double the thickness and stuck up more off the nail than these do. If these were/are solvent resistant they would be pretty acceptable to throw in some polish. However, I did recall someone else saying recently that these metallic circles were bleeding on them after they used a topcoat. I did not have this issue with these gold glitters (nor the black, but the black seem more plastic and less, metal...)

Oh I am DRAGGING!
I have not even cared to do my nails, it's like I'm on a real vacation.
But today, I am pulling something from the vault while I really do my nails today!
This is just kind of a quick and dirty swatch/nail art I did a few months back using a gorgeous polish by Julep.
This is Lena by Julep - a super pretty turquoise shade with a spectacular golden shimmer.
And this is 2 coats of Lena with an accent nail of a rose tattoo.
I LOOOOOVE this polish so much. I forgot I even owned this polish until I pulled this swatch out, totally going to be a go-to polish for summer!
Dexter Week - the Blood Spatter Orchid

 | Welcome to Day 2 of Dexter Week! This is one of those iconical pieces of imagery from Dexter that has stuck with me since the moment I saw it. I searched so hard to try and find the name of this flower/plant, just shy of having to get a hold of this episode to watch it and see what Hannah called it, so if you know, please advise me and I can edit this post. I wish I knew, because I would love to have this plant! |
I really hope in Season 8 that Hannah is still around. I liked Rita, Dexters wife, but Hannah is the first female companion Dexter has had aside from her that I could stomach one bit. Lumen was a weirdo and that british broad, Lila, from Season 2 was so annoying I actually stopped watching until a year or two later. Anyway - last season Hannah came on board as the newest love interest of Dexter and really revved the season up. She's a killer, too! And she brought him this gorgeous orchid-style plant with blood splattered petals, which I am trying to recreate here.
This was a 2nd attempt at these flowers after the first try went so far south I almost didn't bother to re-try this! But these will suffice, I'm kind of split down the middle on how I feel about them, hopefully you guys like them.
My base is Laters, Baby by Literary Lacquers. Then I painted on the orchids with white, light grey, a blood red for the blobs and then a vibrant neon purple and yellow for the middle bits.
So - if you watch Dexter, who's been your favorite love interest of his?

And it's LOADED with pics!
I've kept them small to save load time, but you can click any pic to enlarge it.
Items you will need for this mani:
White Polish
Black Polish
Bright Pink or any neon or contrasting color polish (green, red, orange, etc...)
Base Coat
Matte Topcoat
Wax Paper/Freezer Bag/Sheet Protector/Heavy Plastic
Striping Brush or Striper Polish
Makeup Sponge
Optional Items:
Stamping Plate with Rose design
Stamping Accessories
Striping Tape
Now for MY tutorial, I have used all of the above. The reason I list a few items as optional is because you COULD freehand the rose and you COULD make stripes with white polish instead of using tape. But tape in this mani is very easy to use, it doesn't have to be precise and it doesn't have to stick completely down!

Wax Paper. Anything as listed above will work here. It's so that your polish can easily peel off of the surface. So this, or plastic freezer bags or sheet protectors...something like parchment/wax paper or heavy plastic essentially.
Base coat. I use CND Stickey, but any base will do. Or topcoat if you don't have basecoat (but you should always have basecoat!)
Apply a rather thickish layer of the clear polish to your wax paper. Allow to dry (basically, about 30 minutes you should be good on a thick layer)

While your clear polish on wax paper is drying, paint your nails with 2 coats of white polish. Here I'm using OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls.
After you have painted your nails and your clear polish on wax paper is dry, you can begin the next step - here I have layed out everything to get started doing my stamping.
I've got my rose on my stamper, using Konad Special Black polish.
Stamp on top of your clear polish. I did single roses for the fingers and I did a double rose for the thumbs by just stamping the roses closer together. You could always do single roses and apply two to the thumb, or whatever you feel like!
THIS IS STAMP RA-116 from Red Angel
Next I took my striper brush and hot pink polish - here it's China Glaze Beauty Within
And I filled in all of the areas that were clear on the polish/stamp decal.
Once this has dried you are guaranteed that your white polish should be sufficiently dry as well.
Peel the clear polish/rose decal from your wax paper
Cut to size
Get your striping tape pieces ready to go! If you opt to paint your stripes on, skip this step.
Sponge and decal, ready to rock.
Place the decal lightly on your nail to get an idea of where its going and the space left open around it.
Apply your tape accordingly so that they lead up to where the image will be. Like I mentioned before, they don't have to be exact or perfect and they don't have to stick entirely down.
Doublecheck your decal and make sure everything is working for you.
Paint black polish on your sponge and lightly sponge excess off. You want a LIGHT coating that you can go back over, not a big black blob.
Begin your sponging, a little at a time and be sure and reapply polish to the sponge regularly or your sponge will start to come off on your nail.
I like to paint polish on the very edge of the sponge and dig in the corners and get it super black there, so it fades out to lighter/grittier black as it comes in toward the middle of the nail.
When you are happy with your sponging, remove your tapes! If you didn't use tape, you would have sponged directly on the nail in the same shape, but then here you would go in with a striping brush and white polish and draw in your lines/stripes
It's coming together now, isn't it!?
Next, in the circled area, apply a quick dry topcoat
Your nail (aside from the topcoat) is basically dry at this point (sponging dries FAST!) so place your decal on and press it down good. You may or may not have pieces sticking off the nail - no worries Just make sure its down and there aren't any parts on the nail sticking up.
Get some nippers or nail clippers/scissors
Cut off any excess of the decal. Any teeny tiny pieces can be folded under if need be.
Get your matte topcoat ready! This is my favorite right now!!
Apply matte topcoat to entire nail! As you can see, any lines from the decal edges are now invisible from the topcoat!
With a cleanup brush and acetone, now it's time for cleanup!!
Clean clean!! Get that polish off those cuticles!
And we are DONE!
So...while this may seem like a totally long and painful process, here is the deal.
It's not!
It's a mani you can do while you are doing other things.
It's like prepping one meal for another night while you make tonights dinner!
You can do it all at once, or you can prep the decals and use them later!
They will dry out after about a week if you don't put them in a piece of folded up paper or something, though!
